We see many overseas patients as well as out of town and local patients. We recommend flying into Dulles International Airport which is approximately 25 minutes in a cab to our McLean, VA office where we are located. This costs approximately $30 in a cab. We recommend printing off a map and directions to make life a little easier as then you can hand this straight to the cab driver.
We see many patients from outside of our area and overseas. Our office is in DOWNTOWN McLean, about 20 minutes from both Reagan and Dulles airports. There are virtually unlimited options for lodging and food. Most of our patients stay at either McLean Staybridge hotel which is walking distance to the office and adjacent to both a grocery store and pharmacy; or at the Marriot ……at Tysons Corner, about 5 minutes away by cab. At Tysons Corner, there are 2 large malls, with theatres, often a good distraction for spouses traveling with the patient.
But feel free to use any hotel in the McLean or Tysons Corner area. There are at least 20 to choose from. As we start surgery promptly at 8am, staying near the airports, although only a short distance away, requires a long rush-hour taxi ride and those hotels are certainly less convenient for the patient and family.
A typical traveling in patient sees Dr. Lindsey the day before surgery. This should be coordinated with Dr. Lindsey before making your travel plans. A short office visit allows all of the details to be worked out, consents to be reviewed and signed, and prescriptions to be filled. There are 3 pharmacies within 400 yards of the office. Patients can then enjoy the rest of the day, have a nice dinner, and get a good night’s sleep before the procedure. We do one case per day, usually finishing around 3pm. Patients return to their hotel by cab. (We generally use Red Top taxi, as it has an easy phone number for people to remember: 703-333-3333). About half of our traveling patients depart the next day, and half stay for 7 days and have their sutures removed at the office. Dr. Lindsey prefers this, but it is not required.
For new visitors to the area, Dr. Lindsey has several restaurant and sight-seeing itineraries that have worked well over the years. Feel free to ask about what to see and do while you are here. It is RARE for someone to feel bad after surgery! Plan on doing some sightseeing.
